Work here

A practice that advises employers on how to treat people has to get its own hiring right. Every posting here carries the San Francisco Bay Area pay scale up front, the duties as they actually are, and the exempt or non-exempt classification stated plainly. One role is open now: a paid HR internship for summer 2027. Full-time roles reopen in early 2027.

Role 05 · Remote, California · Summer 2027

HR Admin Intern
(Paid, Summer 2027)

An intern reviewing HR paperwork at a desk

A paid twelve-week internship for a student who wants to see HR practiced rather than described. You will work on live client files under supervision: the administration that makes an HR function actually run. This is not a shadowing program and it is not unpaid; you are on payroll from day one and the work you produce is used.

Essential duties

  • Maintain digital personnel files to retention standards, with access logged and permissions checked.
  • Assist with onboarding packets: offer letters, I-9 collection, handbook acknowledgments, equipment checklists.
  • Audit compliance items on a schedule: required postings, expiring certifications, outstanding acknowledgments.
  • Enter and reconcile HRIS data, and flag records that do not agree rather than guessing.
  • Draft first versions of policy summaries and process documentation for review.
  • Build recurring reports on headcount, training completion and open requisitions.
  • Take notes in client working sessions and turn them into an action list the same day.
  • Complete one project of your own by the end of the summer, presented to the principal consultant.

Required

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or graduating in 2027. Any major.
  • Available thirty to forty hours a week for twelve weeks between June and August 2027.
  • Able to work remotely during California business hours.
  • Genuine care about accuracy: you would rather ask than submit something that might be wrong.
  • Discretion with confidential employee information, with a confidentiality agreement on file.
  • Comfortable in spreadsheets and documents; we will teach the HR systems.

Preferred

Coursework in human resources, business, labor studies, psychology or law; prior office or customer-facing work; interest in sitting for the aPHR; Spanish fluency.

What you get out of it

A weekly hour with the principal consultant on your own development, exposure to compliance, employee relations and recruiting rather than one narrow slice, a written reference on completion, and academic credit paperwork completed if your program requires it. Strong interns are considered first for future openings.

Compensation, benefits and how we pay

The scales above are the good-faith ranges we expect to pay, disclosed as California Labor Code section 432.3 requires. Where an offer lands depends on relevant experience and demonstrated skill: not on what you earned before, which we do not ask.

  • Paid sick leave accrued under California law, plus paid holidays and vacation for full-time roles.
  • Overtime at California rates for non-exempt roles; exempt roles meet the salary threshold and the duties test.
  • Paid rest breaks and an unpaid meal period as required.
  • Health contribution and retirement plan for full-time roles.
  • Business expenses reimbursed under Labor Code section 2802, including an internet and phone stipend for remote work, and IRS-rate mileage for client travel.
  • Paid professional development, including certification fees.
  • Employee discount on templates and merchandise.
