Quarterly California law update
Free and open to anyone. Once a quarter I walk through what changed in California employment law, what it means for small and mid-sized employers, and what to do about it, then take questions.
- When: the second Thursday of January, April, July and October, noon to 1 p.m. Pacific.
- First session: Thursday, January 14, 2027, covering the laws that take effect January 1.
- Where: online. The join link goes out in The Register the week before each session.

HR Desk office hours
Members of The HR Desk get live office hours on the first Thursday of each month, noon to 12:30 Pacific. Bring a question, a draft policy or a situation you are weighing. The join link is in your member library.
Dates employers should not miss
- January 1: new laws, the state minimum wage and several city minimum wages take effect.
- February 1: the annual Workplace Know Your Rights notice is due to every employee.
- Second Wednesday of May: pay data reports are due for employers with 100 or more employees.
- July 1: San Francisco, Berkeley, Emeryville and other cities raise their minimum wages.
