The role
A paid twelve-week internship for a student who wants to see HR practiced rather than described. You work on live client files under supervision, doing the administration that makes an HR function run: personnel records, onboarding packets, compliance audits and HRIS data. You are on payroll from day one and the work you produce is used. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis through spring 2027.
What you will do
- Maintain digital personnel files to retention standards with permissions checked.
- Assist with onboarding packets: offer letters, I-9 collection, handbook acknowledgments, equipment checklists.
- Audit compliance items on a schedule: required postings, expiring certifications, outstanding acknowledgments.
- Enter and reconcile HRIS data, flagging records that do not agree rather than guessing.
- Draft first versions of policy summaries and process documentation for review.
- Build recurring reports on headcount, training completion and open requisitions.
- Complete one project of your own by the end of the summer, presented to the principal consultant.
Required qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or graduating in 2027. Any major.
- Available thirty to forty hours a week for twelve weeks between June and August 2027.
- Able to work remotely during California business hours.
- Genuine care about accuracy: you would rather ask than submit something that might be wrong.
- Discretion with confidential employee information, with a confidentiality agreement on file.
- Comfortable in spreadsheets and documents; we will teach the HR systems.
Preferred
- Coursework in human resources, business, labor studies, psychology or law.
- Prior office or customer-facing work of any kind.
- Interest in sitting for the aPHR; Spanish fluency.
Hiring process
- Every application is read in full.
- Thirty-minute video interview.
- A working conversation about a real client scenario.
- Reference check, then offer.
