What is my offer worth?
California employers with 15 or more employees must post a pay range on every job listing, and any employer must give an applicant the range on request. That range is your map. Enter it with the offer, and this tool shows where you landed and what a counter could be worth.
How the counteroffer is set
The suggested counter aims for the upper half of the posted range: at least 5% over the offer, no more than 12% over it, and never above the top of the range. It is a starting point for the conversation, not a guarantee. Before you counter, decide your walk-away number and be ready for the employer to hold firm or, rarely, withdraw.
The lifetime figure carries the difference through 20 years of 3% raises, each built on the higher base.
About these numbers. Results are estimates for planning, built from the sources and California rules described on this page as of its last update. They are not a guarantee of pay, an offer, or a compliance outcome, and they are not legal advice. See the terms.
